How do you make large plastic like room art?
IIO don’t know how to explain this, but you know in like extreme makeover home edition, sometimes in the kids rooms they create like cars coming out of the wall or giant trees and just really cool objects made out of what looks to be something hard, maybe plastic. What would it be? And how would I make that? Like I want to make some room art, like giant chess pieces, jungle trees…. Stuff thy will be super hard and durable.
For one-off’s they are likely to be wood forms with fiberglass coats with color in the fiberglass or painted. Fancier, and extreme makeover does some absurdly expensive things, they could be vacuum formed plastic into a custom mold.
If you are making it for your kids, then I would suggest getting a book or looking online for directions and start by making smaller objects. It is used for boat and car repair and smaller kits are available in hardware stores as well as those two sources.
Fiberglass resin is extremely sticky and handling fiberglass with resin around can be messy. Much of the good looks of glassed objects has to do with the tedious finishing – sanding, grinding, etc., along the way.
