What is this title of teacher certification considered………. read on?

Master of Arts in Education/Elementary Education/Middle Level Specialization. What does this mean does it mean middle school or what. I would like to teach middle school history and i am looking at getting my bachelors in American Studies and then get my masters for my teacher certification. I got this degree off of phoenix online campus. phoenix.edu If you guys can go to this link and if this first degree isn’t middle school level than can you tell me on the web site which one is in middle school.

Middle school is different. In middle school it is a transition between elementary and secondary. Often 6th graders will have teachers who teach multiple subjects ( these teachers will have an elementary credential) – perhaps math and science, or history and english – to get them used to secondary departmentalized classes. This allows them to see different teachers, but not too many different teachers. Seventh grade is where it begins to be completely departmentalized – so teachers must have a secondary credential.

6th graders are still taught by teachers with elementary school credentials. 7/8th grade teachers – secondary.

The degree you are looking at supplies you with a masters degree and prepares you to work with 6th graders in a middle school setting.

note: be careful with phoenix – make sure it is approved by the state you wish to work in.
