Art Words And Meanings

Japanese/Chinese characters that appear the same yet have different meanings depending on context etc?

A friend mentioned something along the lines of the character for “destruction” is the same as “opportunity” depending on the context it’s used in. Is this true? Basically I’m coming up with a tattoo which will is going to be a host of Japanese art and I really like this idea that these words come from the same character.

Also, if this is true are there any other instances of this “same character, different meaning” happening?

don’t confuse “characters” with “words”…
for example a character 会 as a separate word means “be able to, can” but in the combinations can make such words as:

会议 = meeting
会计 = bookkeeper
省会 = provincial capital
etc…

so “not every character is a word and not every word is just one character”…
