Artists Artist
What are some of your favorite artists/artist styles?
Hi, at school for our art project, we have to draw a picture, grid it, and color the picture in each square an individual style. I’ve been mostly getting my styles from deviantart, but can anyone else suggests some good artists/artist styles to use? They can be paint, ink, anything.
Gosh, you name it. I like El Greco a lot, who is very much a part of the Mannerist style, although for this — his textures and use of color come from his Venetian training. Jim Dine is a printmaker and modern artist who is heavily influenced by Jasper Johns and does just AWESOME still lifes of common household tools. Look at his careful renderings of scissors and you will be amazed. Lionel Feininger of the Bauhaus painted the light hitting things, rather than things themselves. His cityscapes and townscapes are very powerful and beautiful. The cartoonist Jack Kirby just drew shapes — period. That was his secret. He never bothered about detail and as a result his colorists, had a lot of free area to play with. Chuck Close, of course, can be said to have prefigured our modern study of pixels. If you look at any of his great portraits really close up, you will realize the squares are actually just abstract designs whose only relation to the full composition is their overall hue and value.
