Concept of beauty in art?

Does anyone know any art pieces based on the concept of beauty or an artist who talks about art in their piece? I need to research for my school art assignment.

Agreed. You’re opening a can of worms with the “concept of beauty” in art. Here is Immanuel Kant’s theory of beauty: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observations_on_the_Feeling_of_the_Beautiful_and_Sublime

If you mean to talk about art AS art, then this should help:

The twentieth century artists talked about “art AS art” in their pieces. Mainly as anti-art, the avoidance of or satirical view on art AS art (Dadaists – Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray). Others wanted to avoid the conventions and traditional canons of art, so art was explored as what it was – colors, canvases, and frames (Modern Art – Mark Rothko). Since Cubism, concepts ventured into simple geometric shapes, which eventually introduced Minimalism (Ellsworth Kelly).

These artists explored art as essentially what it was, art. If you want to look into the philosophy of art AS art, then read Karl Marx’s “Essentialism” writings.
