Black Artwork

By admin, December 29, 2009 1:22 am

Is there anyway of checking which songs in your itunes library or on your ipod have no album artwork?

Also i keep on getting a problem where songs which have artwork simply show a black screen instead of the artwork i have put on.

thanks to any helpful answers to either of my questions

It’s easier to check on iTunes for missing artwork than on the iPod. Then if you fix the songs in iTunes that don’t have artwork, when you sync your iPod after fixing the problems the artwork will be copied over. I apologise in advance for the long answer but it takes some explaining!

There is no quick way to check which songs have artwork and which don’t. If you change your view in iTunes to Cover Flow this will let you check each song, one by one, for artwork. If you don’t already have the Cover Flow view then do this by clicking the small box to the left of the search box in iTunes at the top right of the screen. Now click on “Music” under Library at the top left of the iTunes screen. Next you need to put your songs in album order so click on the column header labelled Album By Artist and this will sort your albums. So now start at the first song at the top of your list and left mouse click on it. This will show the Artwork associated with the track and if it’s black then the Artwork is missing.

To fix this right mouse click on the track and select Get Album Artwork near the bottom of the menu or copy in a picture from the web or your PC. Repeat the above for all your songs.

If Artwork is not shown on iTunes for all tracks on an album,
sometimes this happens when the first track of an album has the artwork recorded OK but other tracks don’t.

To fix this, in iTunes find one of your albums where you have missing artwork for some tracks. Start playing the album and hopefully in the bottom left corner you’ll see the artwork in the Now Playing box. If it is then fine. Now double click on the next track and see if the artwork is shown in the bottom left and continue to do this with all tracks on the album.

When you’ve found which tracks are missing the artwork, go to one of the tracks where the artwork is OK and right click on it and select Get Info. Go to the Artwork tab and right click on the picture and select Copy. Click OK to close the display.

Now left click on the first track without artwork then go to the last track with missing artwork and hold down the Shift key and left mouse click – which will select all tracks between the first and last ones without artwork. Now right click on any of the selected tracks and select Get Info then right click in the Artwork area and select Paste.

Do this in iTunes for all tracks with missing artwork then re-sync your iPod and they will all be there.

Sorry for the very long answer but as I said it takes time to explain.
