Is Media doomed?
Now that the internet can give us access to pretty much any art form, will media companies soon be extinct?
I mean, if you were so inclined, you can download movies, music, books, television shows and computer games for free. Also, a lot of people are making their own movies and music and putting them up on places like youtube and myspace, people are making their own computer games and posting them on sites such as cheekymonkey and wimp, and as for books, well, pretty much 70% of internet users have at least one blog somewhere.
I believe we have already conditioned ourselves to completely ignore advertising (doublecheck next time you read a magazine).
Where will all of this end?
I was just thinking about this the other day. We are still a ways off from total dependence on the internet, mostly because there are sill older folks who will read the newspapers, rent the movies, etc. But a day is coming when the media will have to cater to the needs of the masses. It will be a major overhaul.
