Thirteen world-class authors including JK Rowling, Tom Stoppard, Sebastian Faulks and Nick Hornby are writing storycards to be sold only € Waterstoneâ ™ s in ™ € Whata s Your Story? Waterstoneâ charity auction at € ™ s flagship store on Piccadilly in June. All proceeds will be donated to English PEN and Dyslexia Action.

The highly collectible storycards is expected to attract bids from as far away as New York and Hong Kong. The cards include a new work € ™ s Children's Laureate and poet Michael Rosen beloved, original illustrations from Lauren Child, creator of Charlie and Lola, and Axel
Scheffler, illustrator of The Gruffalo, and a whimsical tale of African Nobel Literature Prize winner Doris Lessing. Fans of Irvine Welsh, Neil Gaiman, Richard Ford and Lisa Appignanesi, president of English PEN, enjoy this rare opportunity to acquire original â € "and one off – pieces of their work.

Margaret Atwood, will join the auction live from Paris to write her original storycard through its unique machine LongPenâ ™, which allows you to sign the books remotely using a touch sensitive pad and a computer link-up to guide a robot arm.Gerry Johnson, Managing Director, Waterstoneâ € ™ s comments: "It is impossible to say how this auction will increase, but with the caliber of the people involved then really the sky is the limit. Owning an original piece of work of a favorite writer is the ultimate limited edition for fans, so the names that have participated in the What is your story? I think we could see some large sums to offer – all the better for English PEN and Dyslexia Action! "

The auction represents a great opportunity to contribute to English PEN and Dyslexia Action, but only, Waterstoneâ € ™ s also are allowing customers and the public to participate with their own stories.â €

Inspired by the Royal College of Arta € ™ s annual exhibition and auction of works of art postal original size, Waterstoneâ € ™ s beloved asked thirteen authors from around the world to write an original piece of work, in a blank storycard. There is no minimum or maximum word count and the authors have free rein to tell their story in any way to choose. The only rule is that the story conforms to one side of an A5-sized storycard.

Shortly after the auction, facsimiles of letters selected are displayed in Waterstoneâ € ™ s windows throughout the country. Storycards blank will be available within the store, and customers and the public will be invited to attend and write their own stories. These customer cards will also make its way into the shop windows, and will be offered in an online gallery at Waterstones.com.

Whata € ™ s Your Story? is part of the Waterstoneâ ™ € € ™ s Writerâ s Year, which will be unique projects unveiled each month to celebrate the writer and in conjunction with the National Year of Reading 2008. The monthly events including the introduction of Booksellerâ ™ € s scholarship in April, a plan designed to encourage budding authors within the company by sending two booksellers an all expenses paid writing course.

In May, Sebastian Faulks will select 40 books that shaped his work for Writerâ ™ € s table and October see the launch of the Waterstoneâ ™ € s Featured Poet. Lisa Appignanesi, President, English PEN says: â € are vital œStories building bridges between people and cultures. They are our life to understanding the lines of the imagination. They help shape our dreams and our inner life. What's more, everyone has at least one. English PEN applauds this wonderful initiative.â €

Ann Campbell, Director of Communications, Dyslexia Action added: "Campaigns like What's Your Story? Are vital in raising awareness of dyslexia. Books and stories are closed to 10% of the population affected by dyslexia. The money and attention raised will help these adults and children find a new and lasting interest in reading and writing.
