Another Manchester band are people that support me M and I first heard of people M when the song What You Want More? was launched in 1991. The I first heard the song I fell in love with the voice of Heather Small, and could not wait for the album to be released. I went to see people living a few years M later and was an incredible concert / experience and I would recommend to anyone if they have the opportunity to see them.
M People is a band of House and formed in Manchester in 1990. The name came from the initials of the founding members, Mike Pickering, and the rest of the band are Heather Small, Paul Heard and Shovell. I like to think in the name as representing persons Manchester, but thats just my loyalty to Manchester show.
Northern Soul's debut album was released in 1992 and contains some my favorite songs of M People (Color My Life, excitement and some day). The album was not as commercially successful as hoped and it seems that most of their fans Manchester clubbers is because only reached # 53 on the list of albums in the UK.
Things changed for those M in 1994 when it launched its new Elegant Slumming album that saw increase in popularity, due mainly to the single One Night in Heaven, Do not Look any further and, Moving On Up which were hits mass and all in the top 10 singles chart. The album peaked at # 2 on the list of albums in the UK and # 12 in the U.S..
It broke tables in 1995 with the release of their third album Bizzare fruit that has positions # 4 in the UK and # 17 in the U.S.. The songs on the album view of eye sore and search of a hero and was a massive success and look for a hero has been used in many films and television commercials.
Northern Soul was re-released in 1995 with a list of songs again and had more success than the original version and topped the charts at # 26. Continuing its success in 1995 also launched Bizzare Fruit no. 2, which is an expanded version of the original album and released as a limited edition that included a live CD. The album also includes a cover of the song The Small Faces Itchycoo Park (which is my favorite song from the CD) and reached # 3 in the UK.
Al Fresco was released in 1997, went straight into the # 2 and has sold over 1.1 million copies and has gone 2x platinum and made a couple of songs on Later with Jools Holland, which were San Angel and the Love does not matter. The Best Of M People was launched in 1998 and also entered the chart # 2. The album contains 17 songs, of which 10 were ten hits and three new songs. A limited edition was also released which includes a bonus CD 8 songs recorded live on Later with Jools Holland.
The album Testify was released in 1999 and was only available in the U.S. and is a kind of compilation album of songs from previous albums. Ultimate Collection was released in 2005 and is a compilation album, but also with a pair of solo songs by Heather Small and a couple of new tracks that were not in the best album.
